Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System ( MCAS) High School Information

MCAS Testing Requirements and Timeline


All students must pass Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science to receive a diploma from a Massachusetts public high school. Baystate Academy students take the ELA, Biology and Mathematics MCAS tests in spring of the 10th grade. 


2016-2017 MCAS Test Schedule

The spring Grade 10 MCAS English Language Arts test is scheduled for March 21, 22, and 23. The spring Grade 10 MCAS Math test is scheduled for May 16 and 17. The spring MCAS Science tests are scheduled for June 1 and 2.

Students who do not pass an MCAS test, who miss a regularly scheduled MCAS test, or who transfer to BACPS without having passed the required high school MCAS tests, must take a retest. ELA and Mathematics retests are given in late fall and early spring. There are no retests in science; students must take a regularly scheduled science MCAS test in February or June.

These tests, which contain answer keys, will give students a good sense of the types of questions and the type of material to be found on each subject area MCAS test.

MCAS Testing Requirements and Timeline

All students in grades 6th -8th must take  Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science (8th grade only).  This assessment is called MCAS 2.0. This test will include new types of questions specifically designed for MCAS 2.0 as well as other types of questions similar to those found on the PARCC.
